Quizzing with Quizizz!
Quizzizz? Quiz is? What is Quizizz?
You may be wondering what I am talking about and whether I have spelt 'quiz' and 'is' correctly. Your eyes do not deceive you, Quizizz is a free quizzing program that provides a fun and exciting mode for learning content. Quizizz allows students to use interactive technology such as an Ipad or laptop to answer quizzes rather than using pencil and paper to record their answers.

The program Quizizz supports all three Cross Curriculum Priorities relative to the subject being taught. Literacy, Numeracy and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are the three main general capabilities that are being covered with this program. However, the remaining four capabilities can be applied when the appropriate use of Quizizz is fulfilled.
Links to other Learning Areas:
Quizizz can be used for any subject area. If the quizzes for the specific subject is not available, teachers can create their own quizzes to suit the lesson.
A Classroom Activity using this Resource:
Teachers can create their own quizzes on information that the class has been learning or use a quiz that has already been prepared. Quizizz also provides a record of every student that attempts a quiz that has been set. This includes a visual of the answers that were entered correctly and incorrectly.
Quizizz adds a fun twist to generic quiz programs by providing positive and sarcastic 'memes' whenever a student selects a correct or incorrect answer. As seen above, students are also given avatars to represent their participation in the quiz.
Another fun aspect of Quizizz is the scoring system that has been implemented. Students will receive points depending on whether they have correctly answered the question and the amount of time it takes to select an answer.
Students that select an incorrect answer will get zero points and be greeted with a 'meme' similar to the one above that instructs the students to try harder next time.
Students are free to work through the whole quiz at their own pace but each question has its own time limit; which is set by the creator. Therefore students should try not to spend too much time on one question.
Quizizz can be used as a diagnostic, formative and summative assessment to identify the information that has been covered, needs covering and is at the target level.
How to use this Resource:
For Teachers
Teachers will need to create an account to create quizzes for their class and to keep records of quizzes that have been set. Once an account has been created, teachers can either click on Public to find quizzes that have already been created or on Create to make their own quizzes.
There are settings that precede the commencement of each quiz to allow teachers to adjust the quiz in the event that they would like to take away certain settings that have been set by the creator. Once the settings have been checked, teachers simply need to click proceed and ask students to input the code provided.
There is an app for iOS that teachers can download onto the Ipad for students to use besides using laptops.
For Students
Students will be asked to input the code that appears on the screen. Once the code has but entered, they will need to simply enter a name (usually their first name) and wait for the rest of the students to enter the quiz. Students will also be given a random avatar as they enter the waiting area.
Note: Teachers should be aware that once a student leaves the waiting area, they will need to re-enter the code again to enter the quiz but they will not be able to use the same name as they did before. If this happens, the student will need to simply change their name. The previous name that the student entered will remain but show no progress.

Review:
If you require extra guidance or explanations on the workings of Quizizz, Tony Vincent from Learning in Hand provides an extensive coverage of what is Quizizz and how to use it. He also compares the differences and similarities to Kahoot!

This is a fantastic resource that offers a great alternative to "Kahoot". Viewing the way in which it tracks student progress is really quite great. As this allows teachers to view the academic progress of the students and make records and anecdotal notes for future practices. The setting of quizzes offers a more accountable record in relation to this student progress. I will definitely consider using this program in the future with a classroom.
